The Sony A9f Master Series is a very aesthetically pleasing tv. The TV is mostly just screen, with a very minimal screen bezel of 0.3 inches on the sides and top. The bottom bezel is slightly thicker but still only 0.5 inches thick. The stand that the TV comes with is a kickstand style instead of the standard attached feet that most TV’s have. This allows for the screen to sit flush with whatever media stand, entertainment center, or furniture that you have it sit on. The only downside is that it puts the display at a slight backward angle. Though the kickstand does do more than just hold up the TV. It has an integrated subwoofer and a covered connector panel. When the kickstand is fully extended it puts the width at about 12.6 inches. which is a good bit more than most 65′ TVs. Since the TV sits flush with whatever furniture you have it on it does not allow for you to place anything underneath it such as a soundbar, streaming box, or game console. Hopefully, you have some cabinet space in your furniture beneath for that equipment. This TV does look very good wall mounted. It supports 400-millimeter x 200-millimeter VESA mounting brackets. Just make sure to get a low profile no gap wall mount for it.

Performance and Display

The Sony A9F offers one of the best viewing experiences that we have seen on any 4k TV. Sony really did do a great job of pairing an amazing OLED panel with its complex video-processing hardware. The TV has a 120Hz refresh rate and a 3840 x 2160 resolution. Unfortunately, the A9F only comes in 55 and 65-inch sizes. Though the A8 is available in a larger screen size. We were hoping to see it available in at least a 77-inch size. With that being said 65-inch does look good and works fine for most areas. Sony packed this model with an X1 ultimate picture processor, Triluminos Display, and a Pixel Contrast Booster. This combination complements the OLED’s perfect blacks to make screen objects look much more distinct. It has very good support for HDR with HDR10 and HLFG being supported. The A9f has the ability to really distinguish shadows in darker scenes.

The Sony A9F has something called Acoustic Surface Audio Plus, this is sony’s amazing sound-from-screen audio tech. It has 3 audio drivers that are placed directly behind the glass of the OLED display. This means that the TV actually uses the glass panel as a vibrational surface of the speaker. This allows for a dialogue to come directly from any actor on the screen, or sound effects tracking exactly with the on-screen actions. Sony’s A9F puts the sound right where it is supposed to be.

Smart TV

The Sony a9F has the newest version of the smart operating system, called Oreo. This use to be known as Android TV 8.0. Navigation is very fluid and easy with Android TV 8.0. The performance is very nice and quick. It is easy to customize your home screen using the option you get…right on the main screen. The A9F has built-in features such as Google Chromecast and Google Assistant. This effectively makes your TV a Google Home which allows you to control smart-home devices, search for content, use online services or find online information. The only difference is there is no built-in mic to the TV, you will have to use the microphone that is built into the remote control.

The Sony Master Series A9F OLED is one of our favorite TVs that has been tested. The OLED panel offers amazingly rich colors and deep black levels while finding a good balance between detail and brightness. The built-in audio is very good with a basic 3.2 system that really fills a room with great sound volume. The Smart-TV experience is superb with Android TV 8.0. Though it does have its flaws such as the lean back stand and no space below the TV while on the stand. Overall it is a great TV and if the price is not a deciding factor for you we would highly suggest this TV.
